Preliminary Rounds
Owen G Glenn Building
The preliminary rounds of debating will be held at the University of Auckland’s City Campus, located in the center of Auckland’s Central Business District. Events will be centered around the Owen G Glenn Building, home to The University of Auckland Business School, with debating rooms located within a couple minutes walk of the briefing room – the 600-seat Fisher and Paykel Appliances Auditorium.
Half of the debates for each preliminary round will take place in comfortable, ample-sized rooms in the Business School complex itself, with the remainder being held within a two-minute walk.
Wireless Internet access is available throughout the University and we are negotiating to secure this for Australs attendees. The Owen G Glenn building also features numerous spaces for meeting and relaxing, and a Cafe with a sumptuous assortment of delicacies – great for when you’re feeling peckish between rounds.
Octo Finals
Octo finals will be held at the City Campus of the University of Auckland in a variety of locations including the Old Government House (New Zealand’s seat of Government until 1865), the iconic Clock Tower building and the University of Auckland Business School.
Quarter Finals
Following in the footsteps of previous Australs, we intend to hold quarter-final debates at various corporate venues near the university. Auckland is the economic capital of New Zealand and is home to the most successful firms in the country. Not only do these firms have excellent facilities for our debates, the debates themselves will provide competitors and our sponsors a chance to connect with each other.
Semi Finals/ESL Final
The semi-final debates and the ESL final will be held in the SkyCity Convention Centre, in the centre of Auckland’s premier entertainment and events center. Just moments from the hotel and even closer to multiple bars, restaurants and cafes, the Convention Centre is the perfect place to see these final debates without straying too far from the social action that surrounds them.
Grand Final
The grand final will be held at the Auckland War Memorial Museum, overlooking the Auckland Domain. The debate itself will be held beneath the impressive Great Dome. Having recently undergone a multi-year $65 million redevelopment, the Museum is the perfect place to conclude what will be an unforgettable week in Auckland. Following the Grand Final, the festivities will continue long into the night at one of Auckland’s premier waterfront venues.
