Wednesday 30th June: Registration Day
Teams arrive and check-in to accomodation at the Skycity Hotel throughout the day. Registration is followed by welcome drinks in the evening at the Bluestone Room.
Thursday 1st July: Opening Ceremony
During the day we’ll hold the General Briefings, Adjudicator test and the AIDA Pre-Council. Then in the evening get ready for the Opening Powhiri and Welcome Ceremony at the Hilton Hotel from 6pm.
Friday 2nd July: Rounds 1,2,3 and the Themed Night
Friday the tournament officially kicks off with preliminary rounds 1, 2 and 3. In the evening it’s the ‘Themed Evening’ hosted at Shadows from 6 o’clock.
Saturday 3rd July: Rounds 4, 5 and the Women’s Evening
Saturday is a bit lighter, with only two rounds of debating (4 and 5). The evening is one to remember though. The Women’s Debate is one of the premier events of the tournament.
Chair by Nikki Kaye, MP for Auckland Central, the event will be held at Holy Trinity Cathedral in Parnell from 7pm.
Sunday 4th July: Rounds 6,7,8 and the Break Night Party
Rounds 6, 7 and 8 take place on Sunday. After that, teams hold their breaths in anticipation ahead of the ‘Break Night Party’ when 16 lucky teams will be confirmed as the 2010 finalists.
The break will be announced in style at the Montecristo Room.
Monday 5th July: Free Day and the Test Debate
After all that excitement, Monday is your ‘Free Day’ in which you can visit our spectacular city. If you’re into more official engagements, we’ll also host the annual AIDA Council meeting. That night, get ready for the Test Debate.
This year, we have already secured a Chair who will entertain and impress. The event will be chaired by Hon Rodney Hide MP and will kick off at 6:30pm at the Met, number one High Street.
Tuesday 6th July: Break Rounds and the Championship Dinner
Things get serious on Tuesday, with the Octos, Quarters, ESL Quarters and ESL Semis. Then, it’s the biggest event of the tournament – the Championship Dinner.
The Championship dinner will be hosted at the Auckland War Memorial Museum with proceedings commencing at 6pm.
Wednesday 7th July: Grand Finals and the Final Night Party
Wednesday is the real business end of the tournament. We hold the Semis, the ESL Grand Final and, of course, the Grand Final itself in the magnificient Skycity Theatre. In anyone has any stamina left, we’ll cap things off with the Final Night Party at Lenin and Andrew Andrew.
