Pre-Australs
ABOUT PRE-AUSTRALS 2010
Auckland will be hosting a Pre Australs tournament in 2010. The tournament is exclusively for ESL and EFL speakers who have less opportunities to debate and train in english in their home country. The tournament takes place immediately before Australs.
This year it will be 27-29 June, with Australs registration taking place on June 30. Teams should arrive on the 27th and the debates will take place starting early on the 28th.
The team cap will be limited and and it will be a small and informal way to warm up before Australs itself. Teams will get constructive feedback from experienced judges with a strong knowledge of the Australs style. They will also have the option of debating with a fourth, experienced speaker who will work closely with the team during the tournament.
We will also host a forum to discuss regional issues and the wider Australs experience. On the social side, there will be tournament dinner for all participants on the final night.
Priority for registration is for teams who generally lack opportunities to debate in:
- The Australs style; or
- English; or
- Competitions against teams from established debating societies, and/or limited training opportunities.
However, all registered teams will be eligable to break.
